Privacy Policy

1. Introduction

Welcome to Amino, published on the App Store as BCAA: Workout Planner & Log ("Amino", "BCAA", "we", "us", or "our"). We are committed to protecting your personal information and your right to privacy. This Privacy Policy explains how we collect, use, disclose, and safeguard your information when you use the iOS application.

Please read this policy carefully. If you disagree with its terms, please discontinue use of the app.

2. Information We Collect

We collect the following categories of information:

  • Fitness & Health Data — workout logs, sets, reps, weights, session duration, the difficulty rating and comment you give a workout, and fitness test results (push-ups, squats, plank time) you enter in the app. If you grant permission, Apple Health metrics: resting heart rate, VO₂ Max, daily step count, active energy burned, exercise minutes, height, body weight, date of birth (to derive your age), recent workouts recorded by other apps (type, duration, calories, date) and sleep sessions (bedtime, wake time, time in deep, REM and core sleep).
  • Profile Information — the name you enter, age, gender, height, weight, fitness goals, experience level, injuries or limitations, preferred language, weekly training frequency, and equipment list you provide during onboarding or in settings.
  • Usage Data — analytics events about how you interact with the app (onboarding steps, paywall views, purchases and cancelled purchases with the price charged, screens you open, workouts started, completed or abandoned, push notifications you open, review prompts), collected through Google Analytics for Firebase and used to improve the product. These events are linked to your anonymous Firebase identifier and come with three attributes of your profile: subscription status, experience level and workouts per week.
  • Device & Technical Data — a Firebase Anonymous Auth identifier (a random ID that is not tied to your name, email or Apple ID; all data above is stored under it and it is also attached to the analytics events described above), a device token for push notifications (FCM), a Firebase App Check attestation of your device, crash reports (Firebase Crashlytics) and app performance traces (Firebase Performance Monitoring).
  • AI Interaction Logs — the requests sent to our AI backend (your profile, equipment, health summaries and workout history) and the responses received, used to generate your personalized workouts and coaching insights; we also count the AI tokens each request consumes.

3. How We Use Your Information

We use the information we collect to:

  • Generate and personalize AI-driven workout programs tailored to your profile.
  • Deliver post-workout coaching insights via push notification.
  • Analyze your health trends to adapt your training plan over time.
  • Maintain and improve the quality, reliability, and features of Amino.
  • Detect, prevent, and address technical issues, fraud, and abuse.
  • Comply with legal obligations.

4. HealthKit Data

Amino integrates with Apple HealthKit to read fitness and health metrics. HealthKit data is used solely to provide and improve features within the app. We will never:

  • Sell HealthKit data to advertisers, data brokers, or any third parties.
  • Use HealthKit data for advertising or user profiling for advertising purposes.
  • Share HealthKit data with third parties except as strictly necessary to operate the service (e.g., sending relevant context to the AI backend to generate your plan).

Access to HealthKit requires your explicit permission. You can revoke this permission at any time in the Health app → your profile picture → Apps → BCAA, or in iPhone Settings → Privacy & Security → Health → BCAA. Health metrics you have shared are included, in summarized form, in the requests we send to our AI provider (see Section 5) so that your plan and coaching insights reflect them.

5. Third-Party Services

Amino uses the following third-party services, each governed by their own privacy policy:

  • Google Firebase (Authentication, Firestore, Cloud Functions, Cloud Messaging, App Check, Remote Config, Google Analytics for Firebase, Crashlytics, Performance Monitoring) — firebase.google.com/support/privacy
  • OpenAI — your profile, equipment, health summaries, workout history and fitness test results are sent to the OpenAI API by our backend to generate workout plans and coaching insights. Data sent through the OpenAI API is processed under OpenAI's API terms and is not used by OpenAI to train its models. See openai.com/policies/privacy-policy.
  • RevenueCat — subscription management and in-app purchase validation. See revenuecat.com/privacy.
  • Apple HealthKit — governed by Apple's HealthKit framework terms and your device privacy settings.

We do not sell, trade, or otherwise transfer your personally identifiable information to outside parties beyond what is necessary to operate the app and listed above.

6. Data Retention & Deletion

Your data is stored in Google Cloud Firestore (United States) under your anonymous Firebase user ID for as long as you use the app. You may delete all your data at any time directly from within the app: go to Profile → Reset Data. This action is irreversible and permanently removes your profile, workouts, sessions, health snapshots, AI insights, AI coach notes, usage counters and the anonymous account itself from our systems. Crash reports and analytics events already collected by Firebase are retained according to Google's retention periods and cannot be attributed back to you afterwards.

7. Security

We implement commercially reasonable technical and organizational measures to protect your information — including encryption in transit (HTTPS/TLS), Firebase Security Rules restricting data access to authenticated owners only, and server-side secret management for API keys. However, no method of transmission over the internet or electronic storage is 100% secure, and we cannot guarantee absolute security.

8. Children's Privacy

Amino is not intended for use by children under the age of 13 (or the applicable minimum age in your jurisdiction). We do not knowingly collect personal information from children. If you believe a child has provided us personal information, please contact us so we can delete it.

9. Changes to This Policy

We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. When we do, we will revise the "Last updated" date at the top of this page. Continued use of the app after any changes constitutes acceptance of the updated policy.
